巴巴多斯商人有意向中国出口海岛棉,详情如下:
Exclusive Cottons of the Caribbean Inc. is a private sector led Company which purchases West Indian Sea Island seed cotton from local farmers and gins the seed cotton. We currently produce approximately 70,000 lbs of lint on an annual basis. We have 114,000 lbs of lint available for sale and we anticipate having an annual supply for sale as well.
West Indian Sea Island Cotton (WISIC) is considered to be among the best if not the best cotton. High net worth clientele acquire products made from WISIC in the most expensive retail outlets. This extra long staple cotton requires careful spinning, weaving or knitting to realise on the potential of this cotton.
WISIC: HISTORY AND CONTEXT
(i)The Uniqueness & Rarity of WISIC:
Regardless of the exactness of historical records and regardless of the relatively higher volumes of commercial production of other cottons, it cannot be denied that West Indian Sea Island cotton remains the “ultimate cotton” and the rarest cotton in the world. By a unique combination of nature and nurture, West Indian Sea Island Cotton (WISIC) can only be grown to perfection in the small landmasses of the Caribbean’s island states. As a result, WISIC is grown exclusively in the Caribbean Islands and it is tenderly harvested all by hand.
Because of its limited availability, our cotton is also the rarest in the world. The production of WISIC as a proportion of total worldwide cotton production is no more than 4/10,000 of 1% of the world’s cotton. It is possibly rarer than diamonds. According to world-renowned spinners of quality yarns, Spoerry & Co. Ag, “This (WISIC) is the rarest and costliest strain of cotton in the world, and serves as a raw material for the production of high-class yarns.”
Various factors have been attributed to the uniqueness of the British West Indies islands and the consequent uniqueness of WISIC, being:
(i) Rainfall and dry periods at the exact time when the cotton seed germinates & grows,
(ii)The trade winds, which cultivate the cotton easily.
(iii)The annual mean air temperature 26~28 degrees Celsius
(iv)Annual amount of rainfall approximately 1,100~1,200mm
(v)The annual duration of sunshine - 3,000 hours or more.
(vi)Little difference in temperature between day and night
(ii)The Superior Quality:
It has been said that once the touch of WISIC is felt on the skin, it is never forgotten; it possesses “the gloss of satin and the touch of cashmere.”
It is also said that England's Queen Victoria had her handkerchiefs made only from WISIC. WISIC was the cotton associated with the English royal family and was regularly used by European nobility; it became known as the “queen of cotton”. Quite appropriately, the West Indian Sea Island Club of Japan describes it as a ‘treasure of this world’.
The extraordinarily fine fibres of WISIC are white, lustrous, distinguished by their purity and are extremely tear-resistant. As a result, WISIC is the longest, finest, and purest strain of cotton, superior in both strength and lustre to Pima, Egyptian, and Peruvian cottons. WISIC is the yarn from which the finest and most exclusive cotton fabrics are created; it is perfect for weaving an ultra-soft cloth. WISIC fibres reach a length of up to 52mm and demonstrate an extremely high breakage resistance. Fabrics made from WISIC yarn excel because of their fineness and density.
In summary, the inherent superior qualities of WISIC results in it being a cotton which:
§ Possesses natural silken sheen
§ Is as soft as Cashmere
§ Is as long-lasting as wool
§ Is extraordinarily hard-wearing
§ Possesses perfect yarn structure
§ Is low hairing
§ Possesses a clear weave pattern
§ Contributes positively to the ecological balance
